How much of a role does the ocean play when it comes to plant species? A HUGE one!
Did you know that there are over 1 million species of plants whose habitat is the ocean! That's over 80% of ALL plant species! And scientists estimate that around 2/3 of plants in the ocean are still unclassified and unnamed! How mind blowing is that fact!
We all know that plants take in carbon dioxide, photosynthesis it with sunlight and a bunch of other stuff and we get oxygen! but did you know that between 70% and 80% of the oxygen in the atmosphere is produced by marine plants alone! That's a big chunk of our clean air, that unfortunately is produced in an environment full of plastic, and broken down micro-plastics...not such a cool thought now.
What does ECOCEAN want you to do? Make sure that when you're at the beach, DO NOT litter. That plastic, with a strong wind or in the next storm will easily be washed into the ocean, and affect the conditions for both flora and fauna that call the ocean their home! Reuse! Think ahead for the ocean!
